How long did it take Wat Abbitt to learn how to walk?

After voting against the Governor’s smoking ban this year, Del. Watkins Abbitt said:

“At some point, we’re going to ban smoking in public places in this state. But I’d rather crawl before I walk or I run.” (Washington Post, 2/1/07)

Apparently, after 17 years, Del. Abbitt is still learning to walk. That’s how long he’s been obstructing smoking bans in Virginia.

In 1990, Watkins Abbitt was one of only five to vote against banning a smoking in schools and on school buses. (Richmond Times-Dispatch, 2/4/90)

In 2006, Watkins Abbitt again voted against a smoking ban. (Virginia Pilot, 2/25/06)

In 2007, he voted for the smoking ban…only to vote against it when it came back before the Assembly. (Washington Post, 2/1/07)
